In August 2006, current Dundee Engine Plant South Head Line team member, Jeff Ferris, found himself out of work as a tool & die maker. Twenty-four hours later, he began pursuing his longtime interest in writing and achieved publishing success almost immediately. When he hired into DEP, four years later, Jeff had multiple published articles and ghostwriting assignments to his credit. That same year he began writing for Pathway Christian Newspaper – a monthly print publication in Toledo, Ohio that can also be read Online at pathwaycn.com

In March 2011, Jeff and his wife, Ginny, drove to Pittsburgh to explore the possibilities of ghostwriting the autobiography of a remarkable young woman named Amy Brooks. After four and one-half years of part-time writing, Amy’s story is complete.

Amy is as inspiring as she is unique. Born without arms or legs, Amy was abandoned by her birthparents. In a bolder act of rejection, a relative requested that the hospital staff “put her in a back room and not feed her.”

But at eight days old, Amy was received by Richard and Janet Brooks as a foster baby and was subsequently adopted by them. Today, Amy is a talented and accomplished artist with an amazing personality and infectious humor. At their publisher’s request, her story was written as a two volume set. “Unseen Arms” was published in December 2013. Since then, Amy has become an in-demand motivational speaker and has busied herself with book signings and other public appearances.

With a December 2015 publication date, “Unseen Arms, Reaching Out” has just come off the presses!
As Amy takes you on an unforgettable journey through her life, you will find the pages of her books to be saturated with goofy, sidesplitting humor and various other “Amy-isms.” Yet, this thirty-two-inch limbless woman offers an inspiring message that will challenge you in ways that you would never imagine.

To convey Amy’s story through music, Jeff has also co-written a song tribute about her with recording artist Brett Barry, who has recorded the song and produced a music video of it. The song is “Unseen Arms.”
